Purpose and Goal of 2012 Study
Washington, D.C. Study Tour
July 29 to Aug.3, 2012

Markets, Careers and Investment Opportunity

The fifth annual Washington, D.C. Study Tour examines economic events and trends that affect both China and the USA.  This year we focus on two areas of vital concern for China and the U.S., Global economics.  Already, the Study Group has a seminar date and time at the International Monetary Fund, and will also meet and hear from Neil George – financial analyst, writer and former investment banker.

Like Beijing, Washington, D.C. is an extraordinary capitol city.  Reading the book (or internet) and case is one thing, but being there is quite another.  Being there brings fresh excitement about issues and opportunities.  Being there opens the door to meeting people and developing new ideas and outlooks.

Clean Solar Energy to the User

We will also focus on aspects of clean energy, including solar, biomass, battery development and plug in vehicles.  The Electric Power Institute has been working with us, and this year has a full-time, Washington staff person who focuses on the areas of our interests.

Washington, D.C. Museums and Sites

The Smithsonian and other museums in Washington, D.C. are a rich treasure of art, technology, flight, history, and science.   There are too many separate museums, all close together, to see in one week, and they are all free.  In addition, the Study Group members will have an appointment to see the U.S. Congress and historic capitol buildings.

Past Years

In past years, Study Group participants have visited and listened to presenters from –

The Federal Reserve Board
U.S. Transportation Department – fast trains
U.S. Department of Agriculture – global food trade
U.S. State Department
Home Builders Association -- U.S. buys a wide range of building materials and fixtures from China
State Bankers Association
National Mining Association -- coal and clean coal

Residential Stay in Washington, D.C.

As in past years, Study Group Members will be staying at George Washington University (GWU) student housing.  This group will be housed at the GWU Mount Vernon Campus facility, about 20 minutes from Downtown Washington.

About the Webster University China MBA Program

The Program prepares members with skill sets (finance, accounting and economics), discipline methods (marketing, operations and organizational behavior), cases, research and team analysis and discussions. The Program allows students for almost 20 months to improve English language, the link language for much of global business. The Study Tour adds to that language improvement.
